Overview

The drug [99mTc]Tc-DB8 is a technetium-99m labeled radiopharmaceutical currently being investigated for diagnostic imaging of gastrin releasing peptide receptors (GRPRs). It is specifically being studied in patients with prostate cancer and breast cancer. It consists of technetium-99m, a common radioisotope in nuclear medicine with a 6-hour half-life and suitable gamma emission for SPECT imaging, and a peptide component (DB8) designed to target GRPRs, which are overexpressed in certain cancers. The primary objectives of the ongoing clinical trial (NCT05940298) include assessing the distribution and dosimetry of [99mTc]Tc-DB8 in normal tissues and tumors, as well as evaluating its safety and tolerability. Secondary objectives involve comparing SPECT imaging results with other modalities like CT, MRI, ultrasound, and immunohistochemistry in prostate and breast cancer patients.
